Kyle Walker makes title race admission after Arsenal and Man City losses
Kyle Walker, a defender for Manchester City, acknowledged that his team missed a golden opportunity in the Premier League title race on Sunday, as Pep Guardiola’s squad lost 1-0 at Tottenham and leaders Arsenal fell to Everton the day before.
The Gunners suffered just their second league loss of the season on Saturday at Goodison Park, giving City the opportunity to close the gap to just two points with a victory at Tottenham.
However, Arsenal’s north London rivals prevailed thanks to Harry Kane’s 200th Premier League goal, as the defending champions failed to close the gap.
Walker told Sky Sports after the game that it was a missed opportunity, stating, “Of course it is, of course it is, because they dropped points. We needed to pick up on [that] to close the gap.
“But there’s still a lot of football to play, I’ve been here many years in the Premier League and I know the twists and turns that can happen. And I know what this team is about, I know what this team can do.
“We can go on a run between now and the end of the season and it’s just about us doing that really.”
The team of Mikel Arteta has mounted their first genuine title challenge since the 2003-04 Invincibles season and will at times require good fortune, as was the case on Sunday.
In addition, the Gunners’ title ambitions will become even clearer in a week, when City visits the Emirates Stadium on February 15.
