Klopp names Liverpool player who was vomiting prior to Newcastle clash, he’s leaving the Reds
On Saturday, Divock Origi was a noteworthy absentee for Liverpool.
Liverpool rose to the top of the Premier League standings for the time being after a 1-0 win away to Newcastle United.
Six days earlier, Origi came off the bench to help Liverpool win the Merseyside derby at home against Everton, scoring the second and final goal for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
So when Klopp left him out of the team for the trip to Newcastle, eyebrows were raised.
The 26-year-old striker is almost certain to leave Anfield this summer when his contract ends, but given that he provides something no other Liverpool attacker does, keeping him out of the team was an odd move, even though he’ll be gone in a couple months.
However, Klopp said in a post-match press conference that Origi was unable to travel to the North-East due to illness, stating that he had been vomiting.
He said: “Divock Origi was vomitting and stuff like this, stomach problems. We had this before with Kostas and Curtis so we have to make sure nothing is going around. That’s why he was not involved.”
Origi could play a significant part in Liverpool’s quadruple bid between now and the conclusion of the season.
Okay, he’s not a prime Ronaldo, but he’s capable of scoring goals and is a good plan B, with his physicality giving a threat that almost no other attacking player under Klopp has.
Last week’s goal against the Toffees demonstrated how he can score a goal out of nowhere to either change the game or consolidate a lead.
And, with Klopp’s team still in contention for victory in the three remaining games, someone like the Belgian marksman may come in very handy indeed.
