Kieran Trippier, the 32-year-old Newcastle and England full-back, has mentioned Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling as one of the finest players he’s ever played alongside.

Despite never playing together on a club team, Trippier and Sterling have been teammates on the national level.

Trippier has also included Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Manchester City’s John Stones, and Atletico Madrid’s Koke in his list of best ever teammates. Sterling, who cost Chelsea £50 million, has received a lot of recognition.

Trippier, who has played with some exceptional players during his career so far, considers Sterling to be among the top players he’s played with.

When asked the best players he’s played with, Trippier told Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE: “Harry Kane is incredible. I’m a big fan of Stonesy (John Stones), he’s top. Koke at Atletico Madrid. Great leader, great on the ball, top pro. Raheem Sterling as well, I’ve played against him and he’s brilliant.”

Trippier later added on Sterling: “His sharpness. He’s given me a torrid time a couple of times, especially in the Champions League. With and without the ball he’s so smart, so intelligent. The numbers he racked up when he was at City I don’t think it’s spoken about.”

This is a reminder of Sterling’s quality. Although he has not performed at his best in his first season with Chelsea, few players in the team can claim to be playing at their peak this season.

Hopefully, the increased competition in Chelsea’s attacking positions will drive Sterling to improve in the latter half of the season.

The team of Graham Potter desperately needs someone who can consistently score goals in the Premier League, which the former Manchester City star has proven he can do.
