Kevin De Bruyne has given his Belgium teammate Eden Hazard an emotional message following the international retirement of Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard.

Hazard, 31 years old, has ended his 14-year career with the Belgian national team.

He appeared in 126 games, scoring 33 goals and dishing out 36 assists.

The decision follows the Belgian national team’s poor group-stage departure from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Madrid forward confirmed his retirement from international football on Instagram, writing:

“A page turns today… Thank you for your love. Thank you for your unending support. Thanks for all the happiness shared since 2008. Decided to end my international career. The succession is ready. I will miss you guys…”

On Twitter, Hazard’s compatriot De Bruyne paid tribute to his former captain, writing: “What a journey it has been. Congratulations Capi. You’ll be missed!”

Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard have been national team colleagues for years.

The Manchester City midfielder made his international debut in 2010, two years after the former Chelsea attacker.

The pair were members of Belgium’s golden generation alongside Romelu Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois, and Jan Vertonghen.

The Red Devils advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup, the 2016 European Championship, and the 2020 European Championship.

Additionally, they came in third at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

However, the Belgian’s failure in Qatar led to the departures of manager Roberto Martinez and now Eden Hazard.
