Kevin De Bruyne reveals what makes Arsenal’s Premier League title charge so impressive
According to Kevin De Bruyne, the Premier League has undergone some changes during the ongoing title race between Manchester City and Arsenal.
Despite winning four of the last five league titles, City currently sit five points behind Arsenal, who are at the top of the league after 27 games.
De Bruyne has suggested that one reason for City’s drop in form is the increased spending by so-called lower teams in the league, which has made Arsenal’s performance all the more impressive.
Kevin De Bruyne, the Belgian footballer, spoke before Manchester City’s match against RB Leipzig in the Champions League. He stated that this year’s Premier League has undergone some changes, with lower teams being able to spend more money on better players, leading to an increase in overall quality across all teams.
“The level of difficulty is getting tougher. We are second, in three competitions. In comparison with other years, I feel not different. There are some games we should have won, it depends.”
Kevin De Bruyne, who is known for his excellent playmaking skills, has not been in top form lately and was even benched during Manchester City’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend under the guidance of manager Pep Guardiola.
As a result, Jamie Redknapp, a former footballer who played for Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, has stated that Martin Odegaard, the current captain of Arsenal, has now overtaken De Bruyne as the best midfielder in the Premier League.
“Right now he’s No. 1. There’s nobody [better],” Redknapp told Sky Sports, as quoted by the Mirror when speaking about Odegaard. “Normally we would say Kevin De Bruyne is the best midfield player, not just in the Premier League but the world, but something isn’t quite right.
“He isn’t playing as many games as he’d like. But Odegaard does this thing where – all great players possess it – it’s like time stands still when he has the ball.
“Most players [would rush the shot], especially midfield players as we’re not used to getting in those situations. But the calmness that he possesses, he’s scored four or five goals like that with that left foot.
“He’s the captain, he’s the leader. Yeah, for me he’s No. 1 [in the Premier League]. And he’s leading that team.”
