Gabriel Jesus could join Arsenal this week, with the next few days crucial in determining his future, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist claims on  YouTube that the Gunners’ confidence in signing the Brazilian international from Manchester City is growing.

There have been suggestions in recent days that Tottenham are attempting to hijack the deal for the attacker, but Romano claims Arsenal are closing in on one of their priority targets.

They had a bid for the striker rejected, but are expected to make another and hope to close the deal.

Romano said: “Arsenal are really confident on the Gabriel Jesus deal.

“In the last few hours, while I am recording, Arsenal are really, really confident and working on it. Arsenal are on Gabriel Jesus. I always said he is the priority.

“Arsenal are working on this deal and will have to wait a bit for it. Gabriel Jesus and Arsenal is something to keep an eye on in the coming hours or days.

“This is a big week for Gabriel Jesus’ future.”

Jesus and Youri Tielemans appear to be Arsenal’s two top targets this summer, and bringing them both in would be a great boost for Mikel Arteta.

Despite Jesus having just one year left on his City contract and the arrival of two new strikers at the Etihad Stadium, the transaction has not appeared to be straightforward or quick to complete.

But Arteta will hope it gets done and that it is worthwhile, since he needs a new number nine to produce the goals that will propel Arsenal back into the top four.
