Juventus should “free” Cristiano after Champions League Embarrassment. Ex-president Cobolli Gigli.

Giovanni Cobolli Gigli, the former Juventus president has urged the club to offload Cristiano Ronaldo after the club suffered a humiliating Champions League exit in the round of 16 for two years in a row.

According to Gigli, Juventus signed the Portuguese from Real Madrid purposely to lead them into Champions League glory for the first time since 1996. The Portuguese has failed to live by that expectations as he failed to score in both return matches that saw Porto eliminate them in the round of 16.

Despite Cristiano scoring 27 goals in 32 matches across all competition, Gilgi is convinced that Ronaldo is a wrong signing for Juventus.

Speaking in a radio station, Giovanni Cobolli said: ” I said that on the very first day, showing that I have respect for a great champion. But he is too expensive … it’s up to Juventus whether to sell Ronaldo or not, but he costs €1 million per goal. Juve president [Andrea] Agnelli must be self-critical, but he doesn’t have great collaborators.

“Juventus has a need to rebuild. I would free Ronaldo but also [Juventus sporting director Fabio] Paratici.”

Ronaldo received heavy criticism for his role in Porto’s third goal. Ronaldo was in the wall when the free-kick was taken and jumped allowing the ball to pass under him to beat the goalkeeper.

Paratici, who is Juventus sporting director prior to the Tuesday encounter had confirmed that the club had no agenda in extending Cristiano’s contract which runs out in June next year. He however said the decision in regards to his career is in his own hands.
