Jurgen Klopp sends Chelsea strong Liverpool warning after painful Champions League loss
Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has warned Chelsea that winning the FA Cup would be “huge” for him and his team.
Both teams have already advanced to the competition’s final four and will face their semi-final opponents this weekend at Wembley Stadium.
The Merseysiders will face Premier League championship rivals Manchester City, while Chelsea will face Crystal Palace.
While neither the Blues nor the Reds are guaranteed to play in the final – which will be a rerun of the Carabao Cup final from earlier this season – Klopp has already signaled to the rest of the semi-finalists the importance of the competition.
Speaking to the Emirates FA Cup Twitter account, the German said: “For most of the teams, it is the biggest thing you can achieve. You have no chance to become [Premier League] champions, most of the teams.
“It’s difficult to get to a European Cup final, if it’s Europa League or Champions League – for most teams, impossible.
“But a cup? There’s a chance. That’s why it’s so important, that’s why it’s so great and the tradition and history behind all these kinds of things, it’s massive and massive for me and always was.
“So far we’ve never made it that close, but now somebody has put the biggest hurdle in front of us [Manchester City]. Now, we have to make sure we can jump over it.”
While Liverpool will be hoping to win the FA Cup for the first time since the 2005/06 season in the final few months of the season, Chelsea must go one better than they have in the previous two seasons.
The Blues were trounced at Wembley by Arsenal before bowing to Leicester City last time out, with Youri Tielemans’ magnificent strike proving the difference between the two sides.
Chelsea will be eager to respond to their sad Champions League loss at the hands of Real Madrid when they face Palace this weekend.
