Jurgen Klopp makes worrying top four admission following Liverpool draw at Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp acknowledges that he is uncertain about Liverpool’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League in the upcoming season. After their goalless draw against Chelsea, which caused them to slip to eighth place in the Premier League, Klopp’s team is now seven points behind Tottenham, who currently hold the final qualifying spot with 50 points from 29 games.

Despite having a game in hand against Spurs and a match against them at Anfield later in the month, Liverpool faces tough competition from Newcastle, Manchester United, Brighton, and Aston Villa, all of whom are currently ranked above them.

However, Klopp insists that the fading hopes of European Cup qualification will not be a reason for his team to give up in the remaining weeks of the challenging season.

“I don’t know if we have any chance for the top four,” Klopp said. “We must pretty much win all the games and the other teams above us must lose a lot of games. It’s not in our hands.

“But it’s not important. If we don’t have a chance for fourth, then we want to be fifth. If we are not fifth, then we want to be sixth. For that we have to win football games. At the moment, I don’t even know where we are in the table – eighth, seventh, ninth, it’s not interesting.”

He added: “We have another 10 games to play and the next one is Arsenal. The other nine I’m not interested in.

“One point is not a massive step. But if we win a game, all of a sudden, three points, wow, things can look different. We have no lack of ambition. We want to be as successful as possible.”
