A tense confrontation between Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden will make the approaching international break unpleasant.

The teenagers are scheduled to join the England camp the following week, but they were competing in the Champions League last night (September 14) as Manchester City hosted Borussia Dortmund.

Bellingham’s glancing header gave the German visitors the lead in the second half, but it was ultimately irrelevant as John Stones and Erling Haaland scored in the final 10 minutes to give Pep Guardiola’s team a 2-1 triumph.

The Dortmund midfielder became enraged following an ill-advised tackle and shoved fellow countryman Foden as his team’s chances of winning the match diminished. Online, fans reacted, with one tweeting: “Foden & Bellingham gonna be awkward in the England camp.”

A second said: “This Bellingham and Foden fight god bless England are not making it past the group stage.” Another posted: “BELLINGHAM AND FODEN FIGHTING????????? BROTHERS WE ARE TRYING TO WIN A WORLD CUP.”

“Bellingham fighting Foden like they wont be playing together next week,” commented a third. A fourth added: “Why is Bellingham kicking off with all the English City players. Grealish first half now Foden. Take the L lad.”

But another fan argued: “Media be all over Bellingham then with Foden, love that me. Just because he’s England team-mate don’t mean got to be mates on the pitch.”

Bellingham and Foden are almost certain to be named in Gareth Southgate’s England team for the final international break prior to the World Cup later this year, which will be announced later today (15 September).

The Three Lions will face Italy in Milan and Germany at Wembley in their final two Nations League matches, having earned just two points from their first four matches in Group 3 of League A and consequently occupying the bottom spot.
