Jude Bellingham reveals texts from Erling Haaland as England star impress at World Cup

Jude Bellingham reveals texts from Erling Haaland as England star impress at World Cup

Jude Bellingham revealed Erling Haaland’s messages of support during the FIFA World Cup, as he continues to excel for England.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been a revelation for the Three Lions in Qatar, scoring one goal and contributing one assist across four excellent displays.

Haaland, a former colleague of Bellingham’s at Borussia Dortmund, is among those who are impressed by his dominating performances.

Haaland, who spent two years with Bellingham at Dortmund, is familiar with the English phenomenon and has been in communication with him during the tournament, for which Norway did not qualify. Bellingham told BBC Sport that he is always really encouraging.

“He messaged me before and after the first game just saying, ‘good luck’ and then he said ‘well done’. He’s a top guy.”

The talented teenager added: “We speak every now and then to be fair. Normally when we’re both playing it’s more often, but it’s normally silly stuff to be honest, just if he sees something that makes him laugh or if I see something that we’ve talked about before we’ll send it to each other. But it’s never like every day, checking up on each other, you know.”

While Manchester City’s Haaland left Dortmund this summer to join the Premier League champions, Bellingham is still honing his skills in Germany.

Six months after Haaland’s arrival in the Bundesliga, in June 2020, the all-action playmaker made the switch from boyhood club Birmingham City, where he had made 112 appearances and served as captain on occasion this season.

Bellingham, who is anticipated to leave Dortmund in the summer of 2023, might rejoin with his former teammate at City. However, other European powerhouses including Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester United are also interested in signing him.

According to the German publication BILD, Liverpool are currently in first place. The source indicates that Bellingham’s family, who will have a significant say in his footballing destiny, prefers a move to Anfield and that discussions with the Reds are further advanced than those with Real Madrid.

The Birmingham-born dynamo has been tight-lipped about his future and is only focused on the present season, in which he has already scored 10 goals for club and country.

“In all honesty, I’m not thinking about it. I know you’re going to be angry because you can’t get a headline,” Bellingham joked to Sky Sports in October.

“I’m focused completely on Borussia Dortmund. I’ve not even started thinking about next season or next summer – I’m not even thinking about the World Cup.”

In spite of this, he has recently wowed fans and even his England colleagues with a sequence of outstanding performances. Jordan Henderson, the captain of Liverpool, has developed an excellent rapport with Bellingham on and off the field, as he admitted to beIN Sport: “I feel I’m running out of things to say about him.

“Incredible mentality, incredible player. You’re talking about a player whose mentality is unique. He’s a one-off and we just need to let him enjoy his football.”
