Jorginho’s Arsenal future under threat as £12m signing ‘offered reunion with former boss’ in shock transfer
JORGINHO’s position at Arsenal is uncertain as he has received an unexpected transfer proposal that would involve reuniting with a previous manager. Despite having joined Arsenal less than six months ago, there is a possibility that he could depart during the summer transfer window.
Mikel Arteta facilitated Jorginho’s transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal in January for a fee of £12 million. Initially, Jorginho was brought in to provide additional midfield options, but he ended up displacing Thomas Partey and featuring in 14 league matches.
According to a report by 90min, Arsenal is open to entertaining offers for Jorginho, as Lazio’s manager Maurizio Sarri is interested in reuniting with the player. Sarri and Jorginho have previously worked together at Napoli and Chelsea, as Sarri brought Jorginho to Stamford Bridge in 2018.
Throughout Jorginho’s career, he has made 162 appearances under Maurizio Sarri, which is the highest number of appearances under any manager. Their successful collaboration resulted in winning the Europa League together in 2019.
The report further mentions that other Serie A teams, namely Napoli and AC Milan, have shown interest in acquiring Jorginho. However, it is important to note that Arsenal is not actively seeking to push him out of the club.
Arsenal is planning a midfield overhaul this summer in anticipation of their return to the Champions League following a second-place finish. After spending seven years at the club, Granit Xhaka is poised to depart, while Albert Sambi Lokonga, who was on loan at Crystal Palace, is also likely to be sold.
This suggests that Arsenal is looking to make changes in their midfield personnel ahead of their Champions League campaign.
In addition to the anticipated departures, Arsenal is also expected to make new signings, as the club plans to be active in the upcoming transfer window. One player strongly linked with Arsenal is Declan Rice, who currently plays for West Ham.
West Ham chairman David Sullivan has stated that Rice will leave the club during this summer transfer window. Therefore, Arsenal’s pursuit of Rice indicates their intent to strengthen their squad with notable signings.
