Jorginho rejects new Chelsea deal as he makes key demand
Jorginho of Chelsea has rejected the club’s latest contract offer and is seeking a salary increase of around 25%.
The Italian’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he’s been courted by Barcelona, Juventus, and AC Milan.
The midfielder joined the club in a £52 million deal from Napoli in 2018, turning down a move to Manchester City in the process.
The 30-year-old is Stamford Bridge’s vice-captain, and after a difficult start, he is now a fan favorite.
While Chelsea is keen to keep the Italian, the club has only offered the midfielder a contract extension, which means Jorginho will continue to earn the same salary.
According to the Evening Standard, those terms are insufficient for the Italian, who wants a better deal similar to the one recently signed by Cesar Azpilicueta.
The Spaniard received better terms, putting him on around £150,000 per week, which is what Jorginho is looking for.
Chelsea want to sign Jorginho before January 1st, when he will be free to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.
It features N’Golo Kante, who is in a similar situation to the Italian.
The Frenchman turned down Chelsea’s last offer, preferring a three-year contract to the two-year deal the club offered him.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are concerned about Kante’s injury problems and want the 30-year-old to consider that.
