John Terry sends message to Chelsea board concerning Antonio Rudiger departure
Chelsea’s decision to allow Antonio Rudiger depart on a free transfer this summer has been questioned by John Terry.
Following Chelsea’s 1-0 win against West Ham on Sunday, Thomas Tuchel announced that the Germany international has opted to quit the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Chelsea had been negotiating a new contract with Rudiger for several months but had yet to reach an agreement.
The 29-year-old has piqued the interest of several clubs, including Barcelona and Manchester United, but Real Madrid are the frontrunners to capture the defender on a free transfer.
Former Chelsea captain Terry expressed his disappointment at Rudiger’s departure on social media, replying to an Instagram photo announcing the news with:‘How have we let this man go.’
Rudiger rapidly established himself as a crucial player in Tuchel’s three-man defense after the German took over as manager last year, replacing Frank Lampard.

Tuchel also confessed that Chelsea’s sanctions have hampered their ability to renegotiate a new contract with Rudiger in recent weeks.
“We fought hard,’ said Tuchel.
“I fought hard on a personal level. We made big offers to him, and the club tried everything.
“But for some weeks we cannot fight any more because we have the sanctions. We cannot adjust. We cannot continue, and so it is what it is.
“He deserves my full support because he delivered incredible performances right until today.
“I’m just happy that I had the chance to coach him and to have him in the team. Because he was nothing but brilliant.”
