Joao Felix makes bold Champions League promise as Chelsea prepares for Borussia Dortmund encounter

Joao Felix has declared that Chelsea must win the Champions League this season before their match against Borussia Dortmund. The German team will host Graham Potter’s Chelsea at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday as they compete for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Chelsea is ten points behind fourth-placed Newcastle in the Premier League, making qualification for next season’s Champions League through domestic competition unlikely. Unless they experience a significant change in fortune, Chelsea will be determined to defeat Dortmund.

Felix has promised to win the prestigious trophy as Chelsea aims for European success.

Speaking to Chelsea TV following the clash with West Ham, the 23-year-old said: “Now the focus is on the next game.

“The most important game is always the next one. It’s the Champions League, it’s a competition we want to win. Our Champions League [campaign] starts on Wednesday, and it needs to be ours.”

This season, Felix is currently on loan from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea.

The Blues are set to pay roughly £9million to the Spanish giants for the six-month signing of the Portugal international, who was scouted on multiple occasions prior to his arrival.

Despite his impressive performances thus far, Potter has insisted that Felix will not be a ‘silver bullet’ who can ‘fix all Chelsea’s problems’. After the Hammers clash, the Blues boss said: “The first signs were positive.

“I think he’s a very gifted individual. Then it’s about how he fits in with the rest of the guys and the team. It’s about the team attacking better and defending better.

“It’s not necessarily about individual silver bullets that can come and fix your problems all of a sudden. It’s not quite as simple as that, although it sounds like a nice way to fix a problem. You have to construct a team.

“I thought he looked the best player on the pitch. (A misjudged tackled) can happen. If you look at the 60 minutes before, he was taking the ball in tight situations, there was real physicality around him, and he was in my opinion the best player on the pitch.”
