Joan Laporta eyeing Mikel Arteta as Ronald Koeman replacement at Barcelona.

The Catalans are braced for presidential elections and Joan Laporta is among the favourites to be voted into power to extend his leadership for a second time. Laporta had a successful era when he was in charge of the club that he led during their trophy-laden era under now Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

With big plans for the club, Laporta is eyeing current Arsenal boss Arteta to replace Ronald Koeman who was appointed in the summer. Arteta, who is a former La Masia graduate, spent over three years working as a Pep Guardiola assistant at Manchester City before joining Arsenal.

With reports suggesting that the Catalans Xavi Hernandez does not seem interested to take over this summer, Arteta creates much appeal to Joan Laporta because of his connections with Pep Guardiola and his style of football.

Arteta job at the Emirates was his first top job. He has done a great job and impressed many. He took over when the Arsenal team were languishing in the mid-table midway through the campaign and led them to the FA Cup glory before guiding them to a Community Shield against Liverpool.

Although he has been through challenging times this season, he has received lots of been praises for his role, efforts and determination to change the club’s culture. He has also been smart at dealing with the club’s internal politics, a skill that has enabled him to retain the confidence of senior figures at Arsenal despite indifferent spells of form and numerous changes among club staff.

The Gunners sporting director Edu is satisfied with Arteta as he believes that the Gunners are in the process to have a beautiful future under him. Edu feels that the boss is doing a great job. Laporta is also trying to lure Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin for a return to the club where he began his youth career.
