Jim Ratcliffe steps in after Jadon Sancho refuses to apologize to ten Hag
Jadon Sancho is among the Manchester United players targeted for departure by Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the upcoming New Year.
The 71-year-old Ineos chief recently secured a £1.3 billion deal for a minority stake in the club alongside the Glazers, and upon ratification at a board meeting, he is set to take control of sporting operations.
This imminent deal suggests significant changes on the horizon for Old Trafford.
Ratcliffe’s focus is reportedly on revamping the club’s recruitment strategy, with indications of an ongoing search for a sporting director.
Plans are already in motion for the January transfer window, and a recent report from The Sun identifies Sancho as one of the underperforming players United is willing to part ways with.
In contrast to Antony and Anthony Martial, Sancho, who hasn’t featured for the team since August and is not part of Erik ten Hag’s plans, is marked for a potential exit.
The former Borussia Dortmund winger has been excluded from first-team facilities following a public dispute with Ten Hag.
The manager attributed Sancho’s absence from the squad in September to subpar training performances, a claim the player vehemently denied on social media.
Despite pleas from teammates like Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, and Luke Shaw for an apology, Sancho has stood his ground, leading to his exclusion from the first-team setup.
Mirror Football previously reported that United may entertain offers for Sancho, who was acquired for £73 million in the summer of 2021.
While the club is open to parting ways with Sancho in January, it remains uncertain if other clubs will meet the financial demands.
Although United might accept a loss on the initial investment, a loan move appears more likely for Sancho.
The 23-year-old forward, who has struggled to meet expectations at Old Trafford, attracted interest from Saudi Pro League clubs earlier this year.
