Jamie Carragher’s admission about Raphael Varane to Manchester United move.
Manchester United’s move for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has received the seal of approval from former Liverpool center-back Jamie Carragher.
That is because the Sky Sports pundit, articulating six years ago, revealed that “nothing would excite him more” than seeing the France international make the move to the Premier League.
Varane, who helped France win the Fifa World Cup back in 2018, is on the cusp of making a move to United after the Old Trafford outfit agreed a deal with Madrid to reinforce their central-defensive options.
United have resolved on a fee that could amount to £43million depending on how well he performs at Old Trafford — with just a medical and the final agreement on personal terms to be completed.
His arrival at Old Trafford will significantly reinforce United’s defensive options, as well as ticking off another box on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s to-do list, as the Norwegian looks to make another impressive summer capture following Jadon Sancho’s transfer.

With United fans understandably passionate about Varane, his switch to the Premier League should also greatly excite Carragher.
That is, if the former Liverpool ace’s praise for both him and former Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin from several years ago still stands.
“Varane is a Rolls Royce who could become the world’s best,” Carragher told the Daily Mail back then.
“Godin is a player who would have no qualms over tackling his own grandmother to keep a clean sheet. He plays with that pure South American grit.
“With the new television deal about to kick in, we’re going to hear stories of clubs linked with Gareth Bale, Paul Pogba and Marco Reus and of course they would be welcome additions [in England].
“[However] nothing would excite me more than the arrivals of Godin and Varane.”
