Jamie Carragher gives hilarious response when asked about Benitez’s move to Everton.

Jamie Carragher states he will be ‘sitting back with popcorn and watching’ the reaction to Rafa Benitez becoming Everton’s new boss.

The former Liverpool manager has signed a three-year deal at Goodison Park, the club affirmed on Wednesday.

Some Everton supporters are disconcerted with Benitez’s arrival given he used to manage their rivals for six years.

Merseyside Police are examining a threatening banner that was left near Benitez’s home which read, ‘we know where you live. Don’t sign’.

Asked where he holds on Benitez’s questionable appointment, Carragher, who played under the 61-year-old at Liverpool told talkSPORT:
“It’s one of those ones where I think I’ll just sit back with the popcorn and watch it all unfold!”

A section of Everton supporters have not forgotten Benitez beckoning the Toffees a ‘small club’ during his time in charge of Liverpool.

And former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan thinks Benitez’s priority has always been to return to the Premier League since leaving the Chinese Super League club Dalian Professional in January.

Jordan said:

“Rafa Benitez is in the Rafa Benitez business.
“He’s desperate to get back in the Premier League, there aren’t many opportunities for him to do and he’ll take an opportunity irrespective of what he said about them in the past.

“If he had any principles he’d say, ‘I thought they were a crap club years ago, I thought they were beneath me then and I still they are beneath me now’.

“Whether he does a good job or not is a different matter. Is his career in ascent?

“With the greatest respect to all those howling Geordies that are saying I’m this, that and the other because of daring to make an observation about someone who doesn’t manage them anymore, did he arrive at Newcastle because his career was in ascent?

“He got a big bag of money from China. The last manager who went to China and came back to the Premier League was Manuel Pellegrini – and what did he do for West Ham?

“He stunk the place out. He almost put them behind the eight ball financially and they had to get David Moyes back.

“I think Benitez can go and do a great job for Everton because a great job for Everton is taking them above 10th place.”
