James Milner makes worrying Liverpool comment ahead of Wolves and Man Utd clashes

According to James Milner, Liverpool is still unsure about what is causing their issues this season. Despite their efforts, they were unable to win against Crystal Palace on Saturday, which could have helped them move closer to the top four. The game ended in a goalless draw.

Liverpool had an opportunity to temporarily move four points clear of the Champions League positions during their match in Crystal Palace. However, they were unable to score a goal despite attempts by Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah that hit the woodwork.

This result means that Liverpool have only won two of their seven Premier League matches in 2023. They now face an important week with games against Wolves and Manchester United at Anfield. Despite this, James Milner says that he and his team are still unsure about the specific reasons for their recent struggles.

The 37-year-old veteran, who is out of contract at Anfield in the summer, said of the Merseyside outfit’s poor form this season: “There are so many reasons it could be, but nobody can put their finger on it.

“When things aren’t going well people ask you for a reason, and it’s an excuse. It is important not get too down and hearing the noise.

“There is going to be noise when you are at a club like Liverpool, and it is down to us to block that out and put it right.” Milner believes Klopp’s charges are lacking luck in matches and says they are struggling to deal with that fact.

He continued: “When things are going well for you, the ball hits the woodwork and goes in rather than rebounding back out, or it hits the goalkeeper and goes in off his back.

“At the moment, things are not going our way, and it is hitting us a bit harder than it should. And that is something we can deal with better and react when little things don’t go our way in the game.

“When you are flying and winning 15 games in row, not every chance goes in. But everything feels a lot more difficult when things aren’t going your way.

“That’s human nature, it is how the brain works. Everything is easier when you are flying and you don’t think about it.”

On Wednesday, Liverpool will play against Wolves for the fourth time this season. They previously faced each other twice in the FA Cup in January and once in the league at the beginning of February, with Wolves winning 3-0 at Molineux. In the third-round replay, Liverpool managed to draw 2-2 at Anfield before securing a win with Harvey Elliott’s goal.

Following this, Liverpool will face their fierce rivals, Manchester United, who recently won the Carabao Cup. United have been performing well since the World Cup and have earned 23 out of 30 possible points, making their way into the fight for the Premier League title alongside Arsenal and Manchester City. The match will take place at Anfield on Sunday.
