Jakub Kiwior sends Mikel Arteta message after a disappointing start to life at Arsenal
Jakub Kiwior, who was transferred to Arsenal for £21 million from Spezia in January, has not yet played a game for the team. Despite being on the bench for Arsenal’s last seven Premier League games, including their recent victory over Bournemouth, the 23-year-old player claims he is patiently waiting for his debut.
According to Jakub Kiwior, who is a Poland international and has the ability to play both in central defense and midfield positions, Mikel Arteta is a manager who is very attentive to all aspects of the game and everyone on the team is eager to play.
However, given that there are several defenders available to Arteta, it is challenging for Kiwior to secure playing time.
Prior to Arsenal’s win on Saturday, Kiwior was interviewed by the Polish Football Association. Despite falling behind by two goals, the Gunners managed to come back and defeat Bournemouth, who are at risk of being relegated. Reiss Nelson, a product of the Arsenal academy, scored an incredible game-winning goal in the 97th minute at the Emirates stadium.
Kiwior admitted, “What does Mikel Arteta pay attention to? I think he pays attention to everything. I thought that if we were leading by two or three goals I would get a chance, however, I am waiting patiently. Everyone would like to play.”
It is possible that Kiwior may play his first game for Arsenal in their upcoming Europa League match against Sporting Lisbon on Thursday.
The Gunners are set to face the formidable Portuguese team in the tournament’s round of 16, and they will be competing against other tough contenders such as Manchester United, Juventus, and Roma to win the trophy.
“When you look at all of Arsenal, they have a very strong squad for the Premier League,” added Kiwior. “They want to play young players, they are not afraid to bet on them. I took that into account when I came here.”
Kiwior also discussed his first impressions of Arsenal’s London Colney training ground and Arteta’s possession-based style of play. He said, “The moment you enter the training centre, you immediately see how big the place is – how many training fields there are.
“You can see that Arsenal’s a very big club. Here, there’s a lot of the ball, a lot of small games – particularly everything is done with the ball.”
Kiwior, who participated in all four of Poland’s matches in the World Cup held in Qatar, has already played for Arsenal in an U21 match against Chelsea, alongside Emile Smith Rowe. However, they were both substituted at half-time to ensure their readiness for first-team action.
