“I’ve seen it before and it doesn’t tend to work” – Todd Boehly warned about Chelsea strategy

Gary Neville, a legend of Manchester United, has issued a warning to Chelsea owner Todd Boehly following a difficult start to his first few months in command of the club.

The American businessman rescued Chelsea earlier this year when Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the British government and was forced to put the club up for sale, although the Russian had been a very popular and successful figure at Stamford Bridge for many years.

Boehly has struggled thus far, and Neville seemed unimpressed with some of the 49-year-old’s  actions. Chelsea has spent a fortune in the summer transfer window but has yet to see a return on their investment.

Boehly also replaced the wildly popular Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter just after the transfer window closed, despite the fact that Potter had performed admirably for Brighton in the past. This was a rather risky decision, despite Potter’s success at Brighton.

Regarding the Boehly era thus far, Neville stated that it does not appear to be a successful strategy.

“Are we going to speak about Chelsea? Todd Boehly’s project, we have to speak about Chelsea,” Neville said on his podcast.

“I got battered by Chelsea fans at the start of the season but I’m not surprised by what’s happening to Chelsea.

“This has got all the hallmarks of a project that will take time. If you look at what happened at the start of the season, there’s no doubt that was handled with crassness, the way in which the transfer window was being handled.

“That transfer window could take Chelsea a couple of years to recover from, if they don’t get it right.
