‘I’ve heard from coaches’: Rio Ferdinand reveals Arsenal believe they may have their own Phil Foden coming through

Rio Ferdinand stated on his YouTube channel that he has heard from people in the game that Ethan Nwaneri has a comparable level of talent to Phil Foden at a comparable age, following the midfielder’s debut for Arsenal over the weekend.

Following another great Arsenal victory on Sunday, Nwaneri has dominated the news.

The kid made his debut for the Gunners during stoppage time as Mikel Arteta’s squad defeated Brentford 3-0.

Nwaneri became the youngest player in Premier League history as a result. At 15 years and 181 days, he surpassed Harvey Elliott’s record by a considerable margin.

Nwaneri was understandably not given enough time on the field to make a significant effect. Nonetheless, there is undeniable enthusiasm around his potential future.

Danny Murphy questioned the usage of the player against the Bees. However, according to Ferdinand, everything he has heard about Nwaneri indicates that he has the ability to meet all of the expectations.

“There’s no doubting this kid’s ability. I’ve heard from coaches that are at the club and from various different people in the game at that level that there aren’t many 15-year-olds in the last 10 or so years that have got the ability that this guy’s shown on a consistent basis,” he told his YouTube channel.

“We are talking the Fodens of this world. At 15, he’s at a similar level they’re talking.”

Arsenal could have their own Phil Foden in Ethan Nwaneri

There is no doubt that Foden is one of the most talented individuals in the country. Therefore, even considering Nwaneri in the same breath as the Manchester City prodigy is remarkable.

Clearly, Arsenal will avoid applying excessive pressure to the teenager. Clearly, he will not be a regular member of the team for some time.

But Arteta would not have given him a chance if he did not believe he was capable of handling the debut and all that came with it.

Clearly, if everything falls into place for Nwaneri, Arsenal will be in possession of a very remarkable talent in the future years.
