“I’ve been getting more and more baggage .” Erik ten Hag sends warning to Gary Neville and Co. over Man Utd dressing room sway

Erik ten Hag has stated that he will not be deterred by any criticism from pundits when he takes over as  Manchester United  manager next season.

The Dutchman will take over as the club’s next manager in time for the start of the 2022/23 season, replacing interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

United are currently sixth in the Premier League and face relegation to the Europa Conference League if they lose to Crystal Palace on the final day.

West Ham are two points behind them and face Brighton in their final game of the season, knowing that if results go their way, they might return to the Europa League.

Whatever happens on the final day, the Red Devils will be anxious to progress under their new boss the next season.

They have won just 16 of their 37 league games this season, and Gary Neville is one of many analysts to criticise the team’s performance.

Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the club and how poorly they have performed.

When asked about the impact that negative press can have on the locker room, Ten Hag believes he can deal with it.

“That has an impact, but it should never have an influence in the dressing room,” Ten Hag told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. “Maybe the criticism is fiercer there. The club simply has a bigger fan base and more reach than Ajax, because England is much bigger, the Premier League is much bigger and basically everything is much bigger.

“Compared to the Netherlands it’s factor two, three, four or maybe even more. Fortunately, I’ve been getting more and more baggage on how to deal with certain forces.”

As Ten Hag rebuilds his squad this summer, United will have a busy transfer window. Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, and Jesse Lingard are all out of contract, leaving United in serious need of a midfield reinforcement. Declan Rice and Donny van de Beek have already been linked with moves to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford’s futures uncertain, and Cristiano Ronaldo entering his 21st season as a professional, the Red Devils could try to add another striker to their ranks.

After impressing in Serie A with Napoli and Inter Milan, respectively, Victor Osimhen and Lautaro Martinez may be on the club’s radar.
