“It’s true” – Fabrizio Romano issues huge Chelsea transfer claim involving Cristiano Ronaldo on Sunday

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly and super-agent Jorge Mendes have discussed the idea of Cristiano Ronaldo joining Chelsea this summer.

While Chelsea have yet to make a formal offer for the Manchester United forward, Romano has informed GIVEMESPORT that Boehly and Mendes have conducted chats.

According to , The Time, Ronaldo has requested United to let him leave if a suitable offer comes in.

The above comes after The Athletic reported that Boehly and Mendes, who represents the Portugal international, met and discussed the possibility of a move to west London during the current transfer window.

Ronaldo’s ambition to compete in the Champions League is thought to be the driving force behind his intention to request a transfer, with Erik ten Hag’s team poised to compete in the Europa League next season after finishing sixth last season.

While United struggled, Ronaldo was in top form in 2021/22, scoring 24 goals in 38 games.

Chelsea has yet to make a bid for Ronaldo, but Romano believes they may do so after the negotiations between Boehly and Mendes.

When GMS asked which teams might try to sign the former Juventus and Real Madrid star this summer, the transfer analyst said: “At the moment, I would mention Chelsea because it’s true Jorge Mendes had contact with Todd Boehly and we know Todd is taking care directly of all the transfers for Chelsea, so they’ve been offered this possibility to discuss about Cristiano.

“But Chelsea have not followed up with a proposal or something like this for Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Aside from injury, Chelsea’s finishing definitely cost them the title last season.

They scored 76 goals in all, whereas Manchester City and Liverpool scored 99 and 94 goals, respectively (via WhoScored).

A striker of Ronaldo’s calibre and pedigree should correct that and bring them considerably closer to winning the Premier League.

Overall, it’s difficult to envisage United trading their greatest player to a top-four competitor, especially if they can’t find a suitable replacement in the market.

Still, with the player plainly unhappy and eager for a change, nothing is off the table.
