‘It was very tempting’ – Star reveals Man City tried to sign him this summer

Jules Kounde joined Barcelona on a five-year deal from Sevilla this summer, but he recently revealed to L’Equipe that he could have played for Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola had Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Nathan Ake, and John Stones at his disposal, but Kounde claims City wanted a deal.

The deal fell through because City did not make room for him.

Kounde revealed: “Yes, after my first season in Sevilla. It was very tempting (a move to Man City).

“But I had also specified that it was my first year and that there was no question of forcing anything. Yes (City tried again this year), but players had to leave the club first.”

City worked hard this summer to balance the books, selling Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, and Oleksandr Zinchenko for a total of £129.1 million.

When Chelsea came knocking in July, they almost sold Ake, but he refused to leave. Because the decision meant that Kounde would not be signed, City was forced to back out of the deal.

When their defence suffered an injury crisis, City signed Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund just before the transfer window closed.

Guardiola will have no regrets after a successful debut season at the Etihad.
