The summer transfer window on Merseyside will feature links that are particularly attention-grabbing, especially those related to the possibility of Liverpool expressing interest in Jude Bellingham.

It is believed that Liverpool is among the top contenders who may try to sign the Englishman from Borussia Dortmund in the upcoming months.

Despite this, Liverpool has other options for the summer, including Nunes, the Portuguese star, who has also caught their attention. In fact, according to Fabrizio Romano, who spoke on his YouTube channel, Liverpool has included the Wolves midfielder, who earns £85k per week, on their list of targets for the summer transfer window.

“Liverpool remain keen on Matheus Nunes. He’s a player they appreciate, they already discussed Matheus Nunes as a target before he moved to Wolves.

“So it’s something that they already discussed before the Premier League move and he remains a player in the list at Liverpool.”

Could Nunes be a good Bellingham alternative?

Klopp’s team has been facing criticism this season due to their underwhelming performance, especially in the midfield department, which has made it challenging for them to compete for the Premier League title.

This may have significant consequences for Liverpool when they attempt to sign Bellingham during the summer transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether the 19-year-old midfielder would be willing to forego playing in the Champions League and join Liverpool, given that he has received offers from top-tier clubs such as Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Considering this, the Reds may have to consider players like Nunes as an alternative option if they cannot secure Bellingham in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Nunes joined Wolves for a significant fee of £42m last summer, making it unlikely that he would be allowed to leave easily.

However, the Portuguese midfielder has struggled to adapt to the Premier League and has not scored a goal for Wolves in his 24 league appearances. Nunes has only managed to provide one assist and has been benched in the last two matches.

In August, Yannick Bolasie praised Nunes as being “special”, and since then, Nunes has demonstrated his potential at Molineux by successfully taking on opponents, with a success rate that places him in the top 13th percentile according to FBref data.

The 24-year-old needs to adjust more to the Premier League as his attacking skills are not yet up to par.

In terms of defensive performance, he falls short compared to players like Jordan Henderson who make more tackles per 90 minutes according to FBref. There is room for improvement in Liverpool’s midfield, but it is uncertain whether Nunes is the solution.
