“I’m told..” – Romano drops exciting Gabriel Jesus Arsenal transfer update that fans will love
Arsenal are looking to recruit a striker to the Emirates Stadium this summer, and a new development has emerged in their search.
Fabrizio Romano posted a lengthy report on Arsenal’s transfer activity this summer on his YouTube channel last afternoon, including the latest on the club’s pursuit of Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus.
He said: “Gabriel Jesus, remember the name because we had many rumours about Real Madrid and I’m told that’s true that Madrid had contact with his agents but it was weeks ago and not now, it’s not something advanced. They’ve had conversations but it’s not something advanced between Man City and Real Madrid.
“The feeling around sources is that Gabriel Jesus will play in the Premier League next season. He will leave Manchester City and the decision has been made. He is ready to go this summer.
“But now the race is open. Arsenal have been interested in him for a long time. He is a priority target but not the only club. It’s still an open deal. Arsenal are pushing and pushing with the Brazilian director Edu who has a good connection with Gabriel hoping to reach an agreement.”
Given how obvious it is that Arsenal needs to buy a striker this summer, fans at the Emirates will be delighted that Jesus is a priority target during the transfer season.
The Gunners parted ways with Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang in January, and it was a mistake that came back to hurt them.
Mikel Arteta’s men battled for goals and finished fifth, missing out on a place in next season’s Champions League.
Alexandre Lacazette’s contract with the club expires this month, but his goal tally for the season was pitiful. The Frenchman scored six goals in his last 16 Premier League appearances, with only one coming in his last six.
Eddie Nketiah, meanwhile, struggled to find the net until late in the season, when he scored five goals in seven games.
The academy graduate appears ready to sign a new contract, but he cannot be counted on to be the club’s main center-forward for an entire season.
That is why it is a good idea to sign Jesus. In comparison to Spurs attacker Heung-min Son, the Brazil international scored 13 goals and assisted on ten others.
That may not seem like a particularly impressive goal total, but keep in mind that he only appeared in 28 games for the entire season.
As a result of having a better chance of making the starting XI at Arsenal, those numbers are bound to rise.
It remains to be seen whether he can carry the pressure of becoming the club’s main man, but it would undoubtedly be an exciting signing for supporters.
