‘I’m not good enough’ – Pep Guardiola fears he will never win the Champions League with Man City

‘I’m not good enough’ – Pep Guardiola fears he will never win the Champions League with Man City.

After enduring further European heartbreak this week, Pep Guardiola believes he may not be “good enough” to win the Champions League again in his career.

However, the 51-year-old has advised his players to channel their frustrations from Madrid towards winning the Premier League.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola left his players alone for a few days after their humiliating Champions League defeat on Wednesday.

However, they will return to training on Saturday morning in preparation for Newcastle’s visit on Sunday.

And he believes their “tragedy” in the Bernabeu semi-final will strengthen them as they try to maintain their one-point lead over Liverpool at the top.

Guardiola said: “What we lived in Madrid will help us as a club and as a team in the future.

“People now don’t realise it but I tell you — it’s good for us.

“The worst is not being there in the final and living it, it’s watching it. I would love to be there — but it will be better in the future.

“Now it feels like a tragedy but there will be good memories.”

Pep chose not to address his players after Real Madrid scored twice in just over 80 seconds at the death to take their semi-final second leg to extra time, where they were eliminated by Karim Benzema’s penalty.

But on Saturday, he’ll remind them of everything they’ve accomplished in his nearly six years as coach — and that four more victories will give them their fourth title in five years.

He added: “I’ve said nothing. No words can help for what we feel.

“It is just a question of time, sleep as well as possible and think of the next target.”

Guardiola hasn’t won the Champions League since winning it with Barcelona in 2011 — and there’s no guarantee it will happen at the Etihad.

The Spaniard said: “Maybe I’m not good enough to help the team to do it.

“Nobody knows what would have happened with other players or managers. Accept it.

“We have a big challenge. We have the season in our hands.”
