‘If Manchester City call me’: 20-year-old Tottenham target confesses he’d snub Barcelona and link up with Pep Guardiola
Jurrien Timber, a Tottenham target, spoke to Helden Magazine about his future, and he made a fascinating assertion regarding Manchester City.
Spurs are interested in signing the 20-year-old Dutch international, who has six caps for his country.
However, based on his words, Timber appears to be more interested in a move to Manchester City.
According to Voetbal, the Dutch wonderkid stated: “I like playing for trophies, that’s why I will choose Manchester City instead of Barcelona today. I plan to stay here for a while. But if Manchester City call me, what should I do?”
Timber seemed content to continue his development in Amsterdam for the time being, but it’s quite interesting to hear him speak so freely about leaving.
This season, the centre-back has appeared in 36 games in all competitions, scoring three goals.
Timber is only 20 years old, but he’s already a valuable first-team member who has impressively filled Matthijs de Ligt’s shoes.
Timber makes it plain that he wants to compete for prizes right now.
It doesn’t sound like he’d be interested in joining a team like Tottenham in their current position, where it could take two or three years before silverware becomes a realistic possibility.
In the instance of Manchester City, they tend to win silverware every year and are on track to win another Premier League title.
So, until Antonio Conte helps Spurs develop into a successful team, it appears that Timber will not go near N17, which is a shame because he is a future superstar.
Keep an eye on this story since Timber could be departing Ajax shortly.
