‘If it was Harry Kane’– Chelsea superstar appears to aim dig after World Cup snub

‘If it was Harry Kane’– Chelsea superstar appears to aim dig after World Cup snub

Reece James has “liked” a social media post including Paul Merson’s remark that Gareth Southgate would have brought Harry Kane to the World Cup despite the Tottenham star’s injury.

As is customary, there have been numerous opinions and controversies around the 26-man England World Cup selection.

Two Spurs players, Kane and Eric Dier, are included in the team, as predicted. However, much has been written and said about the absences of high-profile players such as AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori and Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

Two Chelsea players, James and Ben Chilwell, have been absent for the past week owing to injuries. The right-back is out with a knee injury.

Merson questioned why Southgate is ready to gamble on injured players Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips, but not James, and speculated that Harry Kane would be on the aircraft if he had the same injury as the Chelsea player (The Daily Star).

By ‘liking’ a Tweet containing Merson’s claims concerning Southgate’s double standards, James has seemingly validated the former Arsenal player’s assertions.
