Ian Wright reveals one thing shocked him about Cristian Romero at the World Cup

Ian Wright stated on his show how surprised he was by Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero’s World Cup final ‘control’

Romero joined Tottenham  last summer and has had a significant influence since then. He is currently regarded as a crucial Spurs defender and has developed a fearsome reputation as a tough central defender.

Romero is notorious for making his presence felt when it comes to opposing attackers, as he never shies away from contact.

Due to injury issues, he has appeared in only 13 games for Spurs this season and missed the last five domestic games before the international break ((Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old restored his fitness and match sharpness just in time to play in every game for Argentina as they fought for the World Cup championship in Qatar.

Despite having made only 19 appearances for his country (Transfermarkt), the Argentine press considers Romero to be one of the greatest in the world at his position (La Voz Del Interior).

Wright, a former Arsenal striker, has also expressed his admiration for Romero’s composure during the World Cup final.

He said: “You know who I thought was going to be chaotic and he wasn’t as bad as I thought he was going to be, especially in this game, was Romero.

“I thought Romero controlled himself because he has got that Argentinian ‘no-one bleeping passes, if you go past me, then I am fouling you.’”
