‘I would prefer’: Kyle Walker discloses Chelsea have a player who’s better at free-kicks than Phil Foden
Kyle Walker acknowledges that Mason Mount is a better free-kick taker than Phil Foden, but believes Foden is more technically gifted.
This week, England traveled to Qatar for the World Cup with a talented squad that includes Mount and Foden.
The manager of the Three Lions, Gareth Southgate, has an abundance of talented players to choose from, but it would not be surprising to see both of the aforementioned players start next week’s opening group stage match against Iran.
Mount, 23 years old, is an attacking midfielder who is one of the best players to emerge from Chelsea’s Cobham academy.
Similarly, Foden, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder who emerged from Manchester City’s youth system, has become an international superstar.
Walker, a defender for Man City who competes with Mount and Foden at the international level, is a fan of both.
However, he favors the Chelsea playmaker during set-piece situations.
“I think technically, Mason Mount looks good,” Walker said.
Walker responded “No” when asked if Mount is technically more talented than Foden.
“A dead-ball situation I would prefer Mase to be on the ball more than Phil.”
Mount has scored six direct free-kicks in his senior career, compared to zero for Foden, so Walker’s claim is not surprising.
Mount scored a spectacular free-kick against Aston Villa earlier in the season.
During this World Cup tournament, you believe Kieran Trippier would be the most likely England player to take a free-kick.
