“I would expect” – Journalist Hints at Another Key Star Departure from Man City This Year
The Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva could leave Etihad Stadium this summer, according to FootballTransfers correspondent Jacque Talbot.
During the January transfer window, the 28-year-old was linked with a move to Barcelona, and Talbot believes he will eventually join Xavi’s squad.
According to 90min, Barcelona inquired about Silva recently. However, according to the source, City swiftly rejected it.
This is not the first time the La Liga club has been linked with a move for the 28-year-old.
The Athletic reported in August last year that City had placed a €100 million (£88 million) price tag on the player due to Barcelona’s interest.
Since Silva’s contract does not expire until 2025, it is unlikely that his market value will decrease significantly this summer.
Talbot has predicted that Silva will leave the Etihad along with Joao Cancelo.
In an interview with GMS, the journalist stated: “I would expect Bernardo Silva to leave this summer. I think Barcelona have been linked quite heavily to him.
“I wouldn’t imagine he’ll go to any Premier League club, but someone like Barcelona would make a lot of sense for him.”
Silva has been one of their most valuable assets for quite some time. Pep Guardiola was quoted by The Times as stating, “Bernardo Silva is an exceptional player.”
According to Transfermarkt, since joining City from AS Monaco, the Portugal international has contributed to over 100 goals for his team. No manager would want to lose this information.
However, from Silva’s perspective, he may desire a new challenge. Except for the Champions League, he has won every competition in which Manchester City has participated.
If Guardiola can lead his team to European glory, then the former Monaco player could very well inform his current employers that it is time for a change.
However, one must question whether Barcelona can afford Silva at this time. However, if they are able to, a move to the Spotify Camp Nou may appeal to him. They continue to be one of the largest clubs in the world.
City and Guardiola will certainly wish for Silva to remain. He is an extremely talented individual. Nonetheless, perhaps the time has come for the midfielder to try something new.
