“I will return to Arsenal” – Player very clear about his future, as he aims for Emirates return
Nuno Tavares’ loan spell at Marseille has been a success for everyone involved, despite some minor setbacks along the way.
The Gunners were eager for their left-back to receive ample playing time, a goal which has been fulfilled.
Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 team has reaped the benefits of his aggressive approach down the left flank. The 23-year-old’s performance has been exceptional, with six goals scored in 27 matches across all competitions this season.
As a result, there are supporters in the south of France who wish for his stay to be extended.
Despite his impressive performances for Marseille, Nuno Tavares revealed on Friday that he is unlikely to stay with the Ligue 1 club for an extended period. Similar to William Saliba’s loan move, Arsenal did not include an option for the French side to purchase Tavares at the conclusion of his loan spell. Therefore, it appears that the left-back will return to Arsenal at the end of the season, rather than remaining in Marseille.
He said this during a press conference, relayed by Football Club de Marseille: “Everyone knows that I still have two years left with Arsenal on my contract. We’ll finish the season. I’m here until the end of the season to reach our objectives with Marseille. I can’t tell you much more.
“I feel very good here, with these players, this manager. We get along really well. At the end of the season, I will return to Arsenal. I can’t say much more.”
One positive takeaway for Marseille fans is that Nuno Tavares appears to be content with his loan spell at the club. Unlike William Saliba, who was always viewed as a key part of Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans at Arsenal, Tavares’ future with the Gunners remains uncertain.
Therefore, it’s possible that Marseille could pursue him again in the future if he becomes available for a transfer. Nonetheless, for the time being, Tavares seems to be focused on making the most of his time in France and helping Marseille achieve their goals.
So, if Arsenal are willing to sell in the summer, maybe they could come to an agreement?
