“I will do what they want.” Liverpool’s Sadio Mane exposes the force behind his Anfield exit
Sadio Mane of Liverpool has thrown the clearest signal yet that he wants to leave Anfield, claiming that ’60 to 70% of Senegalese people’ want him to leave.
The Reds’ star has just over a year left on his current contract, and the clubs have been unable to reach an agreement on a new term.
Mane suggested that he’d reveal his future after the Champions League final, which took place last Saturday, after months of uncertainty.
Despite being linked with Bayern Munich ever since, the 30-year-old had remained mum about his future until Friday afternoon, when he dropped a bombshell.
The Liverpool midfielder remarked before of Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin: “Like everyone else, I’m on social media and I see the comments. Isn’t it between 60 to 70% of Senegalese want me to leave Liverpool? I will do what they want.
“We will see soon! Don’t be in a hurry because we will see this together. The future will tell us.”
According to Diario AS, Mane ‘told his Liverpool teammates he is leaving the club’ after their heartbreaking Champions League final loss to Real Madrid, while other reports earlier this week claimed that the forward has already ‘agreed a three-year deal’ with Bayern, who are desperate to bring the striker to Munich.
Since moving to Merseyside in the summer of 2016, Mane has matured into one of Europe’s most lethal attackers, alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, and he might now be available for a discount amount this summer.
The former Southampton man has scored 120 goals in 269 games for the Reds since his arrival, but last weekend’s defeat against Real Madrid in Paris could be Mane’s final game for the club.
Although Mane appears to be ready to leave the club this summer, his Reds teammate Salah has ruled out a move.
The Egyptian forward is yet to sign a new contract with the club, but has stated that he will remain a Reds player next season.
