“I told you”: Sergio Aguero sends Pep Guardiola one Manchester City selection demand
Last year’s Champions League finalists had to wait over 70 minutes against a stubborn and well-drilled Atletico Madrid team before scoring late in the second half through Kevin De Bruyne.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s spectacular triple substitution altered the game and secured a lead heading into next week’s second-leg contest in the Spanish capital.
The City manager made the choice to bring on all of Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, and Phil Foden from the replacements bench, and it came as no surprise to club great Sergio Aguero to see the latter of the aforementioned three make an impact.
Speaking to his followers live on Twitch on Thursday night, Sergio Aguero said – as relayed and translated by TyC Sports, “As always, my favourite player changed the game (against Atletico Madrid): Phil Foden.”
The Manchester City idol continued by sending the club’s manager a message, as he said,
“I don’t know the situation, but Pep (Guardiola), put him (Phil Foden) a little more on the pitch. The kid tears it up, I’ve told you this. Now that I don’t play anymore, I can say it… One day you asked me who I liked and I told you Foden.”
Phil Foden’s match-winning assist against the reigning La Liga winners on Tuesday night meant that the emerging England international has now been directly involved in 20 or more goals for the second season in a row.
Manchester City’s number 47 has already scored 11 goals and assisted nine others this season.
City fans around the world, and Sergio Aguero in particular, will be hoping that their great form in important times continues this weekend, when Pep Guardiola’s team meets Liverpool in a potential Premier League title decider at the Etihad Stadium.
Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Manchester knowing that a win would leave them in a dominating position, two points ahead of City, who will be looking for a win to move four points clear of their Merseyside rivals.
