“I think he will play”- Erik ten Hag issues promising injury update on Manchester United duo

According to  Manchester United  manager Erik ten Hag, Anthony Martial might be fit to play in the upcoming game against Southampton, while he is also optimistic about Christian Eriksen’s return before the end of the season.

Eriksen had sustained an injury in a game against Reading, and it was initially expected that he would be out of action for three months.

However, he may return in late April, which would be just in time for the final stretch of the season.

Martial, on the other hand, has been recovering from an injury since he came off the bench in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest in early February.

Regarding the potential return dates for Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen, here’s what ten Hag had to say (as reported by Manchester Evening News):

“Yeah, but I think all the time we had a good plan and it worked until now not always good. But he [Martial] is on his way back, he’s back in training but we will be cautious, yeah.

“I think he [Eriksen] will play, yeah [before the end of season], definitely. I can’t tell now an expectation, but I think his progress in the rehab is okay, is going according to plan. So we will definitely see him but not before the international break.”

Given the demanding schedule of games every three days, Manchester United is currently dealing with a stretched squad, which makes it all the more important to have as many players as possible return from injuries. While Marcus Rashford has been performing well and scoring goals, the team will need additional support in the near future.

Wout Weghorst, who is often used as a number 10, cannot be expected to consistently score goals in every game

Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, there was a concern that if Anthony Martial continued to be sidelined for most of the games, Manchester United might struggle to score goals.

So far, Marcus Rashford has been in excellent form and has been able to mitigate the issue. However, it would be beneficial for the team if Martial returns and manages to stay fit for the remainder of the season.

From this point forward, every game will be challenging for Manchester United. While on paper, Southampton may seem like an easy opponent to beat, it is important to remember that every point is crucial for them as they try to avoid relegation. As a result, they are unlikely to give Manchester United any opportunities or advantages easily.
