‘I received a text’: Journalist reveals what he was told about Darwin Nunez to Liverpool last week

Journalist Alex Crook has published information obtained from sources regarding Darwin Nunez’s probable move to Liverpool.

Crook told  TalkSPORT that a ‘trustworthy source’ had informed Liverpool that they were ‘genuine contenders’ to acquire the striker.

“We spoke about Liverpool earlier, about Sadio Mane and would they replace him,” said Crook.

“Darwin Nunez, there is genuine interest from Manchester United, but a deal for him is not as close as has been suggested in the Portuguese media. I received a text message from a trustworthy source on Friday that Liverpool are genuinely contenders for him.”

Nunez has rapidly emerged as the front-runner to replace Mane as Liverpool enters talks with Bayern Munich.

Currently, it appears that all roads lead to Nunez. The confirmation of Liverpool’s interest on Sunday evening adds fuel to the fire.

Much appears to hinge on Liverpool’s ability to collect their entire asking price for Mane.

The Reds appear to be playing hardball with Bayern as they attempt to acquire Liverpool’s number 10 on a cheap contract.

According to reports, the Germans are seeking to use Thiago Alcantara’s move to Liverpool in 2020 as a benchmark.

However, the Reds are reportedly hoping for much more in order to allow Mane leave this summer.

This could be due in part to the effort to support the Nunez campaign. As the summer transfer season has approached, the 22-year-old’s worth  has skyrocketed.

When it comes to transfers, Liverpool, as we all know, prefers to stay within their limits. If they can’t get the most out of Mane, they won’t go above what they consider acceptable for Nunez.

However, the continuous presence of Manchester United should cause some urgency among Liverpool decision-makers.

United has no problems about paying a premium, and if Liverpool does not act decisively, they may miss out on one of their top objectives.

This appears to be a narrative that will continue throughout the summer, so buckle up!
