‘I pray’ – Pep Guardiola makes admission before Man City take on Liverpool
Pep Guardiola is hoping and concerned that his Manchester City players will come back fit and without injuries from their international duties as they get ready to face Liverpool after the break.
On Saturday, City defeated the Championship leaders Burnley and advanced to the FA Cup semi-finals, while Jurgen Klopp’s team had a weekend off. Although Liverpool was scheduled to play against Fulham in the league, the match was postponed due to Fulham’s participation in the FA Cup.
While Arsenal is currently leading the title race by eight points, Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, still have a game in hand. Meanwhile, Liverpool is seven points away from the fourth spot.
Liverpool’s next match will not take place until Saturday, April 1st, when they face a challenging task of playing against Manchester City, who are in desperate need of a victory at the Etihad stadium.
After beating Burnley, Guardiola spoke of his plan before taking on the Reds: “It is what it is. For me, it’s perfect as I will go to Barcelona and Abu Dhabi so it’s perfect. I pray that no-one comes back with an injury. I said to the players – come back fit. You know exactly what you need.
“You work here every day with our incredible staff and backroom staff. What you need to be fit, you need to do it in the national team and, hopefully, the managers take care of the players as much as possible.
“The week now is rest, go with the national team, come back and three days to prepare for Liverpool and we will see what happens next.”
