‘I love that’: Michail Antonio claims something happened in Arsenal’s latest defeat that he’d never seen before
Michail Antonio confessed his delight at witnessing the moment when Moises Caicedo and Kaoru Mitoma exchanged a high-five after Moises fouled Gabriel Martinelli during Brighton’s victory over Arsenal.
The West Ham forward shared his thoughts on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, reflecting on an eventful weekend that seems to have effectively ended the Premier League title race.
Brighton displayed a dominant performance in the second half, dismantling Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. However, prior to halftime, there was some dramatic action as Gabriel Martinelli was forced to leave the field early due to an injury.
Michail Antonio lauds Caicedo after Martinelli incident
Gabriel Martinelli was subjected to a harsh challenge by Moises Caicedo, resulting in him being brought down in the middle of the pitch.
The tackle appeared to carry a slight undertone of retaliation, as evidenced by the subsequent high-five between Caicedo and Kaoru Mitoma.
Martinelli had a stroke of luck earlier in the match when he collided with Mitoma but managed to avoid any consequences. It appears that this incident may have motivated Caicedo to seek retribution against the Brazilian player.
Naturally, Arsenal fans were displeased with the lack of punishment for Caicedo’s tackle, and their frustration may have intensified after witnessing the high-five between Caicedo and Mitoma, implying that there was more to the tackle than meets the eye.
However, Michail Antonio has expressed his admiration for Caicedo’s actions, asserting that he was a strong supporter of what transpired on the pitch.
“I love that. The fact they high fived as well, I actually love that. I have seen people clean someone out for someone else, but the high five has never happened so I buzz off that,” he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.
It’s understandable that Brighton fans may have found the incident appealing, although nobody would wish for Martinelli to suffer a serious injury.
There is indeed an argument that Martinelli should not have been allowed to continue playing, considering his earlier involvement in a collision.
The display of teammates supporting each other is commendable and highlights the importance of team unity. In the end, Brighton had the final say in the match, securing a 3-0 victory that significantly dented Arsenal’s chances of winning the title.
