‘I know this club well’: Liverpool transfer target issues transfer update after breaking another record

Youssoufa Moukoko has hinted that he could remain with Borussia Dortmund beyond this season, despite claims that Liverpool is interested in signing him.

When asked about his future, the 17-year-old attacker hinted that he could soon sign a new long-term contract with Dortmund, telling Sport1: “I’ve been here at Borussia Dortmund for seven years, and I feel at home here. I know this club very well and the manager Terzic trusts me.”

This past weekend, Moukoko made history by becoming the youngest player in Bundesliga history to score ten goals, surpassing current Bayer Leverkusen standout Florian Wirtz and Germany veteran Lukas Podolski.

As reported by Sport, Liverpool is among the clubs interested in signing Moukoko, whose contract expires next summer. FC Barcelona is also in the hunt for the German youth international.

Liverpool may have the financial means to sign Moukoko, but the forward’s latest statements could scuttle Jurgen Klopp’s intentions to bring him to Anfield. Moukoko appears focused on remaining in Germany with his boyhood club Dortmund.

Moukoko, along with fellow Liverpool target Jude Bellingham, has been one of the Black and Yellow’s brightest sparks this season.

Unlike the England international, however, the striker appears to have a greater-than-certain chance of remaining at Dortmund rather than moving to Merseyside in 2023.

Moukoko is without a doubt one of the most promising young players in Europe, and if he continues on his current path of development, he might go on to dominate the top players in the world.

Yet for Liverpool, securing the adolescent after his recent interview feels more like a pipe dream than a realistic transfer objective.

The Reds invested heavily in Darwin Nunez this summer, and with Luis Diaz assuming the role of Sadio Mane’s long-term replacement, it makes little sense for Liverpool to sign Moukoko given their depth in the spots the teenager would likely want to play.
