‘I have just been told’ – Journalist reveals what he heard about Spurs potential Pochettino return
According to a tweet by Rahman Osman, a journalist for London World, Fabio Paratici, Tottenham Hotspur’s managing director of football, supposedly has a preference for Paulo Fonseca over Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s next head coach.
Following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal in April 2021, Fonseca was strongly linked to the Tottenham job, and the club spent several months looking for a new manager.
Tottenham Hotspur had originally aimed to hire either Mauricio Pochettino or Antonio Conte, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to bring either of them to the club.
As a result, they reportedly turned their attention to Paulo Fonseca, who allegedly agreed to a two-year contract with the club.
However, according to Fonseca, the situation changed after the arrival of Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici at Tottenham, as they did not share the same values and beliefs as him. As a result, the club eventually decided to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager.
He told The Telegraph in September 2021: “The agreement was done. We were planning the pre-season and Tottenham wanted an offensive coach. It wasn’t announced but we planned pre-season players.
“But things changed when the new managing director arrived and we didn’t agree with some ideas and he preferred another coach.
“I have some principles. I wanted to be coach of the great teams but I want the right project and a club where the people believe in my ideas, my way to play, and this didn’t happen with the managing director.
“It’s what the chairman (Daniel Levy) and the sporting director (Steve Hitchen) asked for: to build a team who can play attractive and offensive football and I was ready for that.
“I cannot be a different way. All my teams will have these intentions. Against the biggest teams, I’m not sending out my teams to defend near their own box.”
According to Rahman Osman, he was informed of the potential recruitment situation at Tottenham Hotspur, and was told that at the moment, Fabio Paratici prefers Paulo Fonseca over Mauricio Pochettino, in the event that Antonio Conte were to leave the club in the summer.
Osman found the situation to be intriguing and suggested that there are interesting times ahead for Tottenham.

The majority of Tottenham Hotspur supporters would not be happy if Daniel Levy relies solely on Fabio Paratici to make the decision on Antonio Conte’s replacement by appointing Paulo Fonseca, who has not particularly impressed in his current role at Lille, where they are currently sixth in Ligue 1.
Arguably, only Mauricio Pochettino has the potential to convince Harry Kane to stay at Tottenham, given their history together. However, it is unlikely that Paratici would bring Pochettino back, as the Argentine would probably demand significant control over decision-making at the club, which could lead to a clash with the Italian.
As Paratici’s own future is currently in limbo while awaiting the outcome of his appeal in Italy, Levy must be careful not to delay the appointment of the next manager, as it will be essential in bridging the gap between the club and its fans.
