‘I get goosebumps!’ Chelsea icon tells Blues to sign PL superstar and reunite him Mason Mount
Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf told FairBettingSites (via Metro) that the club should sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice and reunite him with Mason Mount.
The former French international desires Rice to replace N’Golo Kante in the center midfield position moving forward.
Kante is in the final few months of his contract, which he signed in 2016. There is currently no extension arrangement.
The long-term injury casts greater question on his future at Stamford Bridge past the summer of next year. Injuries have plagued the 31-year-old for the past two seasons.
Speaking about why Rice should be signed and getting goosebumps, here’s Leboeuf (h/t Metro):
“The only position I think Chelsea need to strengthen in is central midfield as a potential replacement for N’Golo Kante. Declan Rice is the one for me. It would be very, very interesting if Kante left, I would love to see them go and get Rice from West Ham.
“I get goosebumps thinking of Mason Mount and Declan Rice playing together at Chelsea because they are academy graduates and that’s what fans want to see.”
Rice attended the Chelsea academy for over a decade before joining West Ham as a youngster in 2013.
He is Mount’s best friend and the two had played together in the academy. They are now colleagues for England.
With Kante likely to go and Jorginho’s future still undetermined, the Blues should sign Rice before to the start of the upcoming season.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to west London in both the recent and distant past. Positionally, his profile is comparable to Kante’s, but the Englishman offers greater height and physicality, rapid ground coverage, and off-ball prowess.
This seems like a perfect fit for the team, given that the player is talented enough to dominate the central midfield position for years to come. Fans would be ecstatic as well, and the reunion with Mount might be memorable on the field, given their particular quality.
