‘I find that strange’: Graham Potter admits being surprised by what he’s hearing about 23-year-old Chelsea star

Graham Potter has stated that he is surprised when he hears of possible criticism directed at Chelsea’s Mason Mount.

During his first six games as Chelsea head coach, Potter has had a good look at his squad, but some early favorites are emerging.

Mount, 23, is the only outfielder to have started every game under the Blues’ new manager.

In recent weeks, the attacking midfielder has been his team’s creative hub. He also scored his first goals of the season against Aston Villa at the weekend.

Potter surprised by Mount criticism

When Chelsea’s manager hears conflicting views on Mount, he describes it as “strange.”

The Blues and England star receives some criticism, but there aren’t many footballers his age who can boast such an impressive CV.

“It’s surprising – I get a few questions, there seems to be mixed opinion on Mason. I find that strange, especially from the outside,” Potter said.

“When you start to work with him, he’s got everything you need to be a top, top player.

“He has a great attitude, he understands spaces, can execute assists and scores goals, so he’s top.”
