‘I don’t know why’: Alan Shearer slams a Chelsea player for ‘moaning’ during yesterday’s 4-2 loss to Arsenal

Alan Shearer believes Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has no right to complain about the penalty he gave up in yesterday’s home defeat to Arsenal.

The Blues’ terrible home form continued as they were defeated 4-2 by their rivals in a Premier League match at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea, who were sloppy throughout, made a slew of individual blunders to hand the visitors three points.

For example, Azpilicueta, 32, fouled Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka in the box during stoppage time, and Saka converted the subsequent penalty kick to make it 4-2 and game over.

It was an off-the-ball incident in which the two players grabbed each other and jostled for space in the box, but Chelsea’s captain was found to be the responsible party.

Pundit Shearer was unimpressed by Azpilicueta’s pleas to the referee in an attempt to prove his innocence.

“I don’t know what Azpilicueta was moaning about here. He’s got hold of him, he’s got the wrong side of him, he knows he’s been done if that ball comes in… He disagrees with the referee.

“I don’t know why because that’s a clear penalty,” Shearer told BBC One’s Match of the Day programme.

Interestingly, following Wednesday’s defeat, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel switched Azpilicueta and Reece James positions.

Azpilicueta starts the game as a wing-back and scores with a beautiful finish in the first half. Meanwhile, England’s James looked strong on the right side of the back three.

During the second half, though, the two switched roles into positions that appeared to be much more comfortable.

Many would argue that Chelsea need James to play his favoured wing-back position if he is fit because of his influence in both halves of the pitch.
