‘I could not turn this down’: New signing reacts to completing Man United loan move

Today, Manchester United announced the acquisition of Tottenham Hotspur’s left-back, Sergio Reguilon, in a press release. This move came just hours before the transfer window closed.

Manchester United had been urgently seeking defensive reinforcements. After several days of deliberation and reportedly coming close to signing Chelsea’s left-back, Marc Cucurella, they ultimately chose Reguilon as their preferred option to bolster their defensive depth due to Luke Shaw’s injury.

Cucurella appeared to be too expensive, prompting Manchester United to change their plans and focus on Reguilon, the former Real Madrid left-back who had the opportunity to join the club in 2020 but opted for Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham.

Erik Ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, is likely pleased to have added depth to the team. During his pre-match press conference at lunchtime, he confirmed that Reguilon had been registered in time and is eligible for selection in the upcoming game against Arsenal this Sunday.

In an official press release made by United, it is apparent that the defender simply could not decline this chance to join one of Britain’s biggest clubs.

Reguilon said: “In life, you have to be ready for everything and the chance to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not turn down.

“Having spoken to the manager, I know what he needs from me, and I am ready to play my part in helping the team to achieve success.”
