“I Can’t Say…” Modric makes shock claim about Man City as he mentions Chelsea and PSG
Luka Modric has refrained from claiming that Manchester City are a superior team than Real Madrid’s previous Champions League opponents, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite the fact that the Citizens battered Real for long minutes during their 4-3 triumph at the Etihad, Modric refused to concede that today’s meeting at the Bernabeu will be their toughest of the season:
“I can’t really tell you how hard it’s going to be. We have faced a lot of great teams in the league and the Champions League. Tomorrow’s opponents are just as good as PSG and Chelsea are and if tomorrow’s game will be harder I can’t say. They are a great team, they have some great players, it will be a very difficult game.”
It’s an unexpected comment from Modric, given that Real is trailing their opponents in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.
The La Liga team won the away leg against Chelsea before advancing in extra time at home.
They also beat PSG in the last 16 at the Bernabeu, although neither pushed them as hard as City did in the first game last week.
Of course, Modric is aware that his team barely made it through the previous two rounds, and if he concedes that City are tougher, it may imply that he believes his squad is not good enough to advance.
In any event, Pep Guardiola’s team will be eager to earn a point today evening.
