“I can’t agree with that.” Former Liverpool and Manchester City player ends debate of world’s best manager between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola
Dietmar Hamann, a former Liverpool and Manchester City player, has weighed in on the never-ending feud between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.
Klopp and Guardiola are usually regarded as the top managers in the world right now.
Liverpool and Manchester City have dominated English football in recent years under the leadership of the two tacticians.
Hamann, a former player with ties to both teams, has stated that he views Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp better than his Manchester City counterpart.
While the former Champions League-winning player says Guardiola is unquestionably a top manager, Hamann believes Klopp is superior on merit.
Guardiola, according to Hamann, was brought in by the Cityzens with the goal of winning the Champions League. However, the Spaniard has only made it to the final once, which he lost.
Klopp, on the other side, has performed brilliantly with fewer resources, which is why Hamann prefers his compatriot. T-Online quoted the 48-year-old as saying:
The 48-year-old told T-Online:
“I don’t understand the hype surrounding Guardiola. Guardiola is without question a good coach; it’s just his record with Manchester City that doesn’t speak for him.
“He was brought in to win the Champions League, but in six years, he has only been to the final once – and he completely messed it up. Nevertheless, many observers in England speak of the ‘Godfather of Managers’. I can’t agree with that.
“See what Klopp has achieved with very limited resources compared to City. Klopp’s merit is incomparably higher.”
Jurgen Klopp has done an incredible job at Liverpool. When he came over in 2015, the Reds appeared to be light years away from success, despite having a rather average roster.
The German has done wonders at Anfield over the years, restoring the Reds to European royalty.
Klopp has demonstrated how effective recruitment and management can alter a team.
Pep Guardiola has also done an excellent job at Manchester City, but Klopp’s job was far more difficult than Guardiola’s.
The Spaniard took over a much better side from Manuel Pellegirini and led them to domestic triumph.
At the Etihad, Guardiola has failed to win the Champions League. In fact, he failed to win the Champions League while at Bayern Munich.
