‘I believe’: Fabrizio Romano tips Klopp’s Liverpool to move for £42m Man City & Tuchel transfer target

Fabrizio Romano believes Liverpool will make a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder and Chelsea and Manchester City target Matheus Nunes, with the Reds also interested.

Speaking to Caught Offside, the Italian journalist claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s side could try to sign a new midfielder this summer, with Nunes a possible signing for the Merseyside giants, with Nunes highly-rated among many top sides in Europe.

Nunes, one of Sporting’s standout performers last season, has been linked with a reported €50 million (£42 million) move to the Premier League, with City and Chelsea among the clubs interested in the 23-year-old midfielder, with Leeds United also reportedly interested this summer.

With Liverpool suffering a shock draw against newly-promoted Fulham in their Premier League opener this weekend and Thiago Alcantara facing another spell on the sidelines due to injury, a new central midfielder could be a worthwhile investment for the Reds this summer, even after spending a club-record fee for Darwin Nunez.

Indeed, the ages of James Milner and Jordan Henderson suggest that signing a new central midfielder this summer could be a wise move for the Reds, and for Romano, Nunes could be the player Liverpool look at if they decide to approach anyone this month about a potential transfer.

Romano said: “Klopp and Liverpool will consider a new midfielder if there is an opportunity on the market. I believe that Sporting Lisbon’s Matheus Nunes is a very interesting player who could be a good fit for this team, but we need to see the amount that the club will be prepared to invest.”

With central midfield options either injured or nearing the end of their careers, Liverpool could benefit from signing a younger player for the position this summer, and Nunes could be exactly what Klopp is looking for in a player who can operate in the area.

Versatile, athletic, and a full international, Nunes is ideal for what the Anfield side requires in a long-term midfield option, and Liverpool should look to sign the 23-year-old before Chelsea and City make their own moves to bring the Portuguese star to the Premier League.
